In our home, my husband and I both have our “own room”. We have a 4 bedroom house, one is the master bedroom, one we have made into a guest bedroom, another is “his room” where he has all of his gaming set-up, and the other room is “my room” where I have a desk and texts in addition to a music stand and all of my painting supplies. Recently (as noted in a previous post) I have organized and cleaned up my office a bit. My goal was to turn it into a more serene space of my own. If this is my room then I want it to really become my space. So, I decided to play around with a few things I already had in my office, in addition to checking out a really neat store about 25 miles away with my girl Kaycie to get a few new things.
On my desk/working space now are a few things to help me during meditation, painting, blogging/journaling, photo editing, grading, and the like.
Directly in front of me and a little to the left is a candle to help with mediation and relaxation. I also have a stack of books to keep remind me to never take life too seriously, and to be playful. On these books is a sea salt rock that helps cleanse the space it is in. I also have a rose quartz and a picasso stone. I’m really not sure why it is called a Picasso stone, but it helps remind me to be creative and artistic.
Directly in front of me in the center are a few things to remind me how to remain open minded. The jade Buddha to the left, a moonstone, citrine, and red jasper in between the figures. And to the right you see Ganesha. (Their meanings and explanations are all linked.)
To the right and center is a bible and a book on the ‘History of God’ (a very eye opening read, I read it for a class on religion during my Masters), an amethyst and another candle for meditation and relaxation. The texts remind me to stay grounded and centered, and a consistent reminder of higher beings in existence.
To the right on an attached shelf to my desk is a ‘snow globe’ of Peter Pan and chakra crystals. The Peter Pan snow globe is really just a great reminder of the Sun card in tarot. Be playful, do what you love, etc.
Next to the Peter Pan globe is an incense holder and an emerald. Now, I am really not a “skull person” but this reminded me of a painting I really liked at the Indiana Museum of Art, and that is why I got the one with skulls. The incense help in calming the mind and body and allowing one’s self to focus during meditation.
Another item I purchased was a pendulum. Now, this was originally a bit out of my comfort zone, but in all honesty they are very neat. Of course you can go a little extra bizarre on what you believe they can do, but really, it is just a neat tool that can be very guiding in one’s life. I am actually really digging this purchase! Although it is hard to tell in the picture, the pendulum stone is made out of bloodstone.
Another thing I purchased (and am WAY more excited than an adult probably should be) is a rain stick. Do you remember these? They are awesome! You turn them slowly upside down and then it sounds like rain is falling. Anyways, it completely brought me back to my childhood and has quite a calming affect. It is AWESOME! I am so glad I purchased one!
In addition to these items I now have in my office/work space I have discovered the ‘spa’ radio station on Pandora. If you are into meditation, relaxing, or massages, I would suggest checking out that Pandora station.
I am very excited about “my room” now and all of the calming, centering, inspiring, and healing energies that will assist me in daily life. My space feels so much more serene and “my own”.
